When you are walking through the journey of pregnancy loss, it’s easy to feel like you’re waiting for one massive, magical breakthrough—the day the grief completely lifts and everything feels "normal" again.
But healing doesn't usually happen in one giant leap. It happens in the smallest of steps. It’s found in the quiet, beautiful micro-moments that we sometimes forget to notice.
In Surviving the Silence, we talk a lot about the practical tools to help you navigate miscarriage and infant loss, but today, we want to highlight the powerful tool of celebrating your tiny wins. 🤍
What Does a "Tiny Win" Look Like?
A tiny win isn’t running a marathon or having it all together. When you are healing from a miscarriage, a tiny win can look like:
🌿 Moments of Connection & Peace
Sending a quick "thinking of you" text to a friend, or replying to a message you've been putting off.
Listening to a song that makes you want to tap your feet or sing along, even if just for a minute.
Stepping outside, even just for 5 minutes, just to feel the fresh air or the sun on your face.
Completing one short journal entry or writing down something you were thankful for today.
Allowing yourself to say "no" to an event or conversation that you just weren’t ready for—and feeling good about protecting your peace.
Catching yourself laughing at a silly video or a joke and letting yourself enjoy that moment without guilt.
Deleting a backlog of emails. Clearing out 20 random junk emails just to feel a small sense of control and accomplishment.
Canceling a subscription that you don't need or use. Taking one logistical task off your plate so you have less to think about and helping the budget along the way.
Tossing out the old flowers or dying plants and watering the good ones. Clearing out things that are past their prime makes immediate mental room for new growth.
☀️ Everyday Routines & Movement
Making a nourishing meal or finally drinking "enough" water.
Taking a warm, relaxing bath or shower and using the "good" body wash or lotion you usually save for special occasions.
Doing a gentle, 5-10 minute stretch to release the physical tension that grief likes to hold in our bodies.
Opening the curtains to let the morning sunshine into your room.
Putting on an outfit that makes you feel cozy and put-together, even if you’re just staying home.
Clearing off just one surface, like a cluttered coffee table or the kitchen sink, to give your mind a little breathing room.
Changing the bedsheets. Crawling into fresh, clean sheets is one of the best, most comforting feelings in the world.
Ordering the groceries online. Recognizing you don’t have the energy for the grocery store and using an app instead is a massive win for practical self-care.
None of these things means your grief has vanished. What they do mean is that you are choosing to live, to breathe, and to heal—one beautiful step at a time. Every single micro-moment of peace or joy is proof of your incredible resilience. You are rebuilding your world, and that is worth celebrating! 🎉
